Spider-Man is far from home – literally.

The film rights to everyone’s favorite webslinger have become the exclusive property of Sony Pictures Studios after talks broke down between Sony and Spider-Man creator Marvel. This marks the end of the most successful period in Spider-Man movie history, with the five movies made during the recent Sony/Marvel partnership grossing $8 billion.

The Culver City, California-based company and Disney subsidiary Marvel Studios were unable to reach a new deal that would satisfy both parties. Sony then regained full control of the character currently played by Tom Holland, effectively forcing Spider-Man out of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), to the outrage of actors and fans.

“Well, Sony should just leave Marvel alone. Spider-Man is doing good with the Avengers, but if they were to get Spider-Man back Sony could make great movies once again,” junior Dakota Hudson said.  “Tom Hardy’s Venom with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be legendary. The two of them together would be awesome.”

Fans will just have to wait to see what Sony plans to do with Spider-Man moving forward.
