The start of the 2018-19 school year at Waxahachie High School has proved to bring numerous new components to students’ everyday school life.  A new building, new classes, new bell times (and bell songs), and, yes, a new art club.

After years of offering painting, drawing, and ceramics classes at WHS, the first-ever Art Club is now open for all students to join.

“It’s really amazing to finally have a source of recognition for art students,” President Rebecca Ramirez said. “I am so excited to have a new outlet for creativity and can’t wait to spread our art into the community and, make new friends.”

The members of the club will be creating a mural of an Indian head with an abstract and colorful background to be placed in downtown Waxahachie. The club is currently in the process of sketching ideas for the mural and will eventually vote on the best ideas.

“It will be interesting to see how the mural comes to life,” said junior Mackenzie Hines. “I’m just stoked to be a part of it!”

The first meeting was held on Wednesday, Sept. 5th, but existing members urge more students to join.

“We could use all the help we can get.” said Ramirez. “I’m hoping a lot more students join.”
