Wednesday, November 11th, the Waxahachie FFA Chapter competed at the annual Blackland District Leadership Development Events competition and won first place overall.

Hachie’s individual and team events were all very successful this year.

The Senior Chapter Conducting, Greenahnd Chapter Conducting, Senior Skills, Greenahnd Skills, and Ag Advocacy teams all placed first.

Waxahachie Chapter President and Blackland District First Vice President Jonathan Middleton said, “I really love competing in Chapter Conducting, and Wednesday was no different. My team placed first, and we are now Area bound!”

When asked about Wednesday’s events outside of the competition room, Jonathan said, “I was so excited to be able to see my fellow Blackland District officers, meet a few of the current Texas State officers for the first time, and more importantly, talk with people from all over our district while making new friends.”

Public Relations, Ag Issues, Senior Quiz, Greenahnd Quiz, Senior Radio, and Greenahnd Radio are the Waxachie team events that placed second.

Individual events, such as Senior and Greenahnd Creed Speaking, were also very successful. Natalie Auvenshine, Hachie’s Senior Creed Speaker, placed second, and Callee Herron, the Greenhand Creed Speaker, placed first.

All of Waxahahcie’s competitors this year have been practicing diligently every day ever since school started in preparation for this past competition and the next one on the area level.

Junior Audrey Hamic said, “Leading up to the days before the competition, I was super excited to be able to compete. As we were waiting to go into the shop to do our presentation, I got a little nervous, but our demonstration ran smoothly and we got first! I can’t wait to see what Area is going to look like for our team!”

This year’s competition looked a little different because of COVID restrictions. Rather than host the competition as Waxahachie has done for the past four years, the competition was held at Navarro College in Corsicana.

The top two competitors in each event qualify for the Area VIII contest on November 21st. Teams who place in the top two at Area become qualifiers for State contest on December 3rd-5th.
