The Waxahachie Indians capped off their regular season in thrilling fashion on the road on Friday with a 5-3 comeback victory over the South Grand Prairie Warriors.

South Grand Prairie would threaten early, loading the bases in the bottom of the second, but Waxahachie would turn a 4-6-3 double play to put out the fire. However, Warrior first baseman Cole Kracmer would plate the first run with a double an inning later.

The Tribe added a run on a Sage Hampton RBI single in the fourth to draw level, but SGP wasn’t done. In the sixth inning, Warrior starting pitcher Benny Emmons hit a sacrifice fly that broke the 1-all tie, and Garrett Williams would drive in a run to put his team up 3-1.

In the top of the 7th, Waxahachie began to mount a comeback, drawing two straight walks and chasing Emmons from the contest. Aaron Tesei cut the deficit to one run, and Campbell Sullivan came up with a two-run RBI single to put the Indians up 4-3. A fielder’s choice added another run, and reliever Casey Kelly set down the Warriors in the final half inning to complete the comeback.

Waxahachie (10-4, 2nd in 7-6A) opens the playoffs with a three-game series against Dallas Skyline (3rd in 8-6A). Game one is slated for Thursday at Paul Richards Park, with first pitch at 7 PM. The Indians’ entire postseason run can be heard on KBEC 1390 AM/99.1 FM or online at KBEC.com.
