UIL extends event suspension

Staff Reports

On Thursday, the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the sanctioning body of all Texas high school sports and fine arts events, extended its suspension of all UIL-sanctioned events “until further notice.”

“We are working diligently on contingency plans to conduct state championships in each of the activities that have been suspended,” said UIL Executive Director Dr. Charles Breithaupt in a press release. “While the immediate future is unclear, we are committed to providing these much-desired activities to all Texas students and will prepare for all possible outcomes, including extended school closures.”

The UIL stated that the earliest that contests and games may resume is Monday, May 4, with a “reasonable acclimatization period for rehearsals and practices” given to schools prior to that date.
