As of recent social media, the phrase “bring back bullying” has become popular, with several thousand people saying that bullying needs to be brought back because some people deserve or “need” to be bullied into fitting into the “societal norms” of our current world.
It hasn’t just stopped at internet goblins saying bring back bullying, but kids and teenagers alike have been saying this phrase wholeheartedly agreeing to some extent that bullying needs to be brought back into school because of people who are different from them.
Not many people stop and think about what this phrase means to several people, whether that be to people who have suffered from years of bullying previously and are only getting back out of their shell, or whether their trying to fearmonger people who are finally coming out of their shell to go back into it and follow the things that are seen as “normal.”
Many people who tell others “We need to bring back bullying” or “Bullying is bad but this is the exception,” don’t actually realize how this can affect a person’s mental state and insecurities. Many people have completely changed themselves and quit social media altogether because Gen Z and Gen Alpha and even some Millennials think that bullying should still be normal since it’s been around and nobody has ever thought to just accept people as they are.
When I heard a someone I trusted say that bullying needed to be brought back, I completely distrusted them as a person who has gone through over a decade of torment from my own peers. Bullying changes and makes people change for the worse — it makes people hide who they really are.
Bullying is harmful especially to teenagers and growing adults, so be the change.
