DEAR Day

DEAR+Day

On Friday, February 4, WISD celebrated it’s 20th year of D.E.A.R. Day across the district. Hundreds of volunteers gave up their time from all over the community to come together and encourage the value of reading a good book every once and awhile. School organizations, such as the Interact Club and Student Council, volunteered at the elementary schools. I had the privilege of reading at Northside Elementary to Mrs. Bready’s class of first graders. The kids were very excited and listened without a peep to the three picture books I was able to read to them. After the announcement came on saying that our time had expired, we quickly huddled together to take a picture before I left. Seeing how happy the kids were made D.E.A.R. Day that much more special, and I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to read the past few years.
