Swimmers at WHS are gearing up for a great and memorable season. They are setting new goals and looking forward to being part of an inclusive team environment.
Junior Nick Livingston has high expectations for this upcoming season.
“For my goals, I want to continue to drop my time in all my events, updating my former school records in the 500 freestyle and 200 freestyle and getting new school records in the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly,” Livingston said. “I plan to achieve them by going to practice both in the morning and in the afternoon for my club team and giving 100% every single day.”
Senior Cedia Henderson is new to the Waxahachie swim team, but sure not new to swimming. On Oct. 5, Henderson broke a school record by one second in the 100 backstroke.
“Coming on to a new swim team was scary at first, but everyone is so nice and inviting,” Henderson said. “I’m enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. I’m most looking forward to our championship meets and seeing how far we can make it as a team, and just having fun at the meets.”
Returning swimmer and senior Addison Kimbrell is looking forward to her last year as a Waxahachie swimmer.
“I hope with my last year that I get the chance to improve my personal times and to inspire younger swimmers coming in to push themselves even when practice and meets become challenging,” Kimbrell said.
Coach Garrett Davidson hopes to improve swimmers technique so that they can reach their individual potential.
“My favorite thing about coaching is helping everyone get better,” Davidson said. “I like seeing the best version that they can be so I want to help them get there.”
Coach Tamara Pruitt emphasized how team unity always improves team performance.
“I want to see our team come together, support one another and lift each other up as we navigate the ups and downs of the long swim season,” Pruitt said.
With the individual high expectations and goals of the swimmers, the instruction and guidance of the coaches and the support and spirit of the team, Waxahachie swimming is sure to have an amazing season.
