Rumors of Later Days

A recent rumor has been going around that the school day is going to be changed from ending at 3:50 to ending at 4:15. The reason for this change is that our new facility is going to be so big that we will need ten minutes between passing periods rather than six minutes.

To be blunt, the entire idea is quite ridiculous. We do not need 25 extra minutes of school for 16 extra minutes of passing periods. If we changed the time, everything would change, including extracurricular activities. Instead of a sports practice lasting from 4 to 6 p.m., practice would last until 6:30 or 7 p.m., which means less time for homework and house chores, thus affecting sleep and grades.

Instead of taking the most difficult path possible and making life harder for the entire student population, the schedule could stay the same except to change the passing periods to ten minutes. The only difference of the schedule besides that would be periods would be four minutes shorter. Four. Minutes. Four minutes isn’t such a big deal that our entire bell schedule needs to be altered. Most students could testify- the majority of high school classes finish the bulk of the lesson within ten minutes of the bell.

Hopefully this rumor will be put to rest, but for now, all we can do is think positive and pray for the best.
