Shawn Cherry, a senior at WHS, has a massive passion for football. He played flag football as a young boy and has been playing high school ball for four years now. With a huge amount of heart, drive, and determination, he has helped the Waxahachie Indians Varsity football team win many games and make outstanding plays. Cherry plays the position of running back and has worked diligently to be the number two rusher in 6A football. This season’s goal is to help his team get into the playoffs and push through to state.

Currently, Cherry has two offers to continue playing football, one at SAGU and one at Lyon College. Cherry’s ultimate goal and dream for school and his career is to continue to play the game of football and continue his education at the University of Oregon and then play in the NFL. Although he is a fantastic player and very goal-driven, that does not always happen. His back up plan would be to attend college and become an FBI agent, so he can “travel the world and help others in need.”

Cherry states that his favorite memory from WHS football is the Summit game in 2019 when the Waxahachie Indians beat the number one team in their district! Cherry played his heart out, gave it everything he had, and with the help of his teammates, he scored two touchdowns. They won the game.

The Waxahachie Indians are currently in the playoffs for the first time since the switch from 5A to 6A, and Cherry cannot be any more excited about what the field has to offer for him!
