The Cherokee Charmers ended a very successful season at American Dance/Drill Team Nationals. The Charmers competed against multiple different teams and brought home a bunch of trophies.

“This competition season was so successful,” Senior Captain Somer Clark said. “We brought home so many trophies and I’m so proud of us!”

The girls were awarded many trophies including first place novelty, first place pom, first place military, and second place lyrical. The Charmers also were awarded the giving back award for the community service they did. They won the sportsmanship award and runner up academic champions.

“I was so surprised and excited when I heard our name called out for being National Champions,” Senior Lieutenant Victoria Borders said, “We have wanted this all year and we finally accomplished it.”

The officer awards include first place modern, first place hip hop, third place jazz, and third place novelty. The Charmers were also awarded fifth runner-up academic champions.

In the overalls, the officers got fourth runner up. The elite teams got sixth runner-up, and the team was named NATIONAL CHAMPIONS for the large team division.

“I couldn’t be happier with the outcome of this competition season,” Senior First Lieutenant Lexie Burchfield said, “I will cherish the memories that we have made this year forever.”

With the season coming to an end, preparations for next year begin. The Line tryout clinic will be held the week of the 25th from 4:30-6:30. Results for the team will be announced Saturday, April 30.

“I am very excited to see who the new line will be,” Charmer Director Erica Pointer-Wilcox said.
