As a new school year kicks off, it’s time to get involved in the variety of clubs and organizations offered at WHS.

Some of these clubs include student council, interact, dungeons and dragons club, debate club, and culture club.

“Our first student council meeting is Monday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m. in the lecture hall after open house,” senior class vice president Abby Herrin said. “We will talk about the upcoming football game student section.”

Anyone can join student council through a link sent in the student email. The deadline to sign up is tomorrow and the fees are $25. Interact, a school community service club will also have its first meeting next week.

“Interact provides students with opportunities to earn community service hours,” Interact sponsor Chrisanna Melick said. “Our first meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 31 in the lecture hall at 7:45 a.m.”

Culture Club is a student-led group that teaches about new countries and their lifestyles. They will host meetings Wednesdays after school in room 1219. Finally, for students who enjoy arguing, the debate club, sponsored by Katelyn Noah, will have its introductory meeting Tuesday, Aug. 30, or Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 4 p.m. in room 2105. It is only necessary to attend one of the meetings.

“Students can expect to argue about worldly issues, have open-minded discussions, travel, compete in UIL, and have fun,” Noah said.

If interested, look for signs and information posted around the school or listen to announcements.
