In 2016, potential intelligence circulated that showed the Trump campaign was interfering with national security in coercing with the Russians in the presidential election. People voted for Trump on accounts of “clearing the swamp” of corruption, and corrupt politics. Unfortunately, Trump has broken this promise, handing positions to important White House staff (including friends and family) to cover up the ultimate crime: teaming up with a violator of human rights, and an old adversary of the United States, Russia.

Michael Cohen was a former attorney for the current President. In 2018, he was charged with campaign finance violations, tax fraud, and bank fraud, sentenced to three years in federal prison and handed a $50,000 fine.

This week, Cohen appeared in front of a House committee to reveal to a nation a cauldron of deceit and lies. After lying when the evidence was clear that there were violations of security clearance and nepotism, Cohen shed light on the Trump administration’s intertwining with Vladimir Putin’s Russia with his terrible lying capabilities. But millions of Republican and independent voters are still in denial.

Many people point to the hypocrisy of Hillary Clinton’s emails to this day. “If Trump is prosecuted, why wasn’t Hillary Clinton?” This is a diversion from the basis for investigation of the White House. Donald Trump is the commander-in-chief of our military, the free world, and these recent discoveries put responsible people in fear that he could seriously damage our national integrity.

In a recorded conversation, Trump worked with Jared Kushner, his son-in-law, to give top security clearances to people who were not authorized. The question is, why are close family members of the President getting this access?

Trump is accused of nepotism, giving powerful positions to family members and loyal comrades. However, there is one problem. There are no anti-nepotism laws for White House staff positions, making this case of nepotism totally legal in the eyes of the law.

Many anticipate that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will not push for impeachment of the President, either. Although a thorough investigation is underway, the facts still aren’t clear. Trump covers up his tracks by pushing the burdens of his illegal actions on to his staff. At this moment, Trump is possibly untouchable, but, there’s still lots of work to do.

This isn’t a partisan issue. America’s separation of powers and three branches of government were built on accounts of trust, honesty, and stability. However, this is the first time in years that the Constitution has been outright violated and the President has been exposed for it. In coming years, the public’s eyes will be opened to further scandal of our current regime.
