The United States Senate during the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump.

On Dec. 19, the United States House of Representatives voted to impeach the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, kickstarting the third impeachment trial in U.S. history. After contentious debate, the WHS Media Staff has decided that President Trump should be removed from office, despite the knowledge that there will be inevitable action to the contrary.

By withholding $391 million in aid to Ukraine in exchange for investigations into Joe and Hunter Biden, the 2016 elections and a meeting between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,  the White House’s current occupant has committed a capital crime against the integrity of the United States of America, all for his own personal benefit. He has ignored national interests in practically every way, shape, and form, and he will continue to do so if he remains our country’s chief executive.

Also, in ordering the defiance of House subpoenas, the White House has blatantly undermined the House’s sole power of impeachment. Furthermore, the fact that the Trump administration has done this demonstrates that the administration is attempting to cover up their illegal activity. Ironically, this action is illegal and immoral in itself. This, in conjunction with the President’s other actions during his tenure, warrants his removal from the office of President of the United States.

In addition, the fact that the Senate has voted to not hear witness testimony is an indelible blot on the integrity of the trial. All relevant evidence needs to be heard and considered by the Senate, and, without witnesses, all of the relevant evidence cannot be considered because it simply has not been presented. This also shows that Republicans support their President enough to forgo any thought of the due process guaranteed through the Constitution.

America deserves the facts. America deserves to see the President held accountable. However, he won’t be held accountable, and this inaction cannot stand. We must let the President know that the American people will not let the authority of his office be abused, and the way to do so is to vote against Donald Trump in the November election.
