The Cross Country season has started back up, and the team is off to the races. The cross country program is setting its goals high this year with the girl’s team competing for their sixth district championship, and the boys working hard for their first district championship since 1995.

“I am proud of the dedication from all the athletes this season,” coach Edward De La Cruz said. “Now it is time to see all their hard work and effort pay off.”

So far, the teams have competed in 7 meets.

“I am proud of how everyone has run so far this season,” junior varsity girls captain Whitley Blankenship said. “I love getting to see all the girls hard work starting to pay off.”

The teams are not waiting for their championships to be handed to them. The athletes have trained all summer and beat the heat. However, they quickly came to love the cool, early mornings.

“The early mornings can be tough, but the girls and the whole team can always find a way to make the best memories,” sophomore varsity captain Mireille Camargo said. “They can make the most out of every early morning.”

Both teams are striving for success and won’t settle for anything less.

“We are setting our standards high this year, I am confident we can reach our goals and end the season with success,” coach De La Cruz said. ” No matter what I am beyond proud of each runner and the growth they have shown this season.”

The teams are training and preparing, with only 2 meets left until the district.

“We are preparing every day for district, win or lose we should all be proud of each other,” junior Emilee Jones said.
