Swamped with Homework

Swamped with Homework

After the fun of the first day of school wears off, we quickly realize that we need to focus on school and the many responsibilities that follow that. Since we have started back to school we have all had some form of homework. All of us in school are required to do homework, and it is a very beneficial part to our learning experience. As we do our homework we learn how to work through problems on our own. Teachers rely on homework and out of school projects to give us all the practice we need to survive the course. Homework helps us all in many ways.

Personally the amount of homework that I have had in the past week has stressed me out to the max. Everyone has the work from their four core classes but then some kids have even more work from electives like Spanish or debate. When you add all of the time that has to be put in for all of this homework, we have multiple hours worth of homework. With all of this time being consumed by school work, the kids who are in extracurriculars have little time to be involved. I can only imagine how hard it must be for kids in band. They go through hours of band rehearsal and then they still have hours worth of homework.

When I come home from a long day at school I know that I have to immediately start on my homework or else I will not have time to be a part of extracurricular activities. Many students feel the same way. We all have too much homework, and it is only the second week of school. As a student, it is overwhelming to look at all the homework that has to be done in such a short time period. teachers need to realize they are not the only class we have. Some kids have five core classes and if each class has multiple hours of homework then one student could have up to five or six hours of homework in one night.

Although all the assignments we have are geared to help us and make us master the subject, the amount that is given is more than enough. It comes to a point where it causes more and more stress for students. I will completely agree that homework helps us but at the same time it becomes too much.
