I am totally not biased on the album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” by The Weeknd, even though I might have seen it in concert and The Weeknd is my favorite artists.

The album was released a year ago on Jan. 31, 2025, with most fans and even critica giving it favorable reviews. The Weeknd blends the sounds of R&B and club pop to present an album perfect for everyday and late night listening. The album’s central theme describes fame as a curse that the artist, Abel Tesfaye, lives through.

The lyrics and beats of the songs make them iconic and memorable, and helps maintain its popularity even after a year. The songs provide emotional depth and are sung as ballads, for example “Open Hearts.” The songs blend together and the interludes help to present its theme in the music as well as the movie interpretation. However, the album is long-lasting — a sum of 80 plus minutes where it at times loses its meaning and becomes flat. Some songs become more forgettable, being
overshadowed by other songs that are better developed and memorable.

Critics say that there is also a mixed narrative of self-pity and sadness, that doesn’t always land as intended when presented in the lyrics. But even with these dull moments and mixed messages, the beats and vibes the album presents makes it a replayable album for multiple situations.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is a deeply ambitious and bold album, which doubles as a farewell to The Weeknd’s old persona, making way for a new era in his music. The album may be a great piece to long-time listeners, but some critics, it may take too long to get to its point.
